About

About the Pomeranian

The Pomeranian is the smallest of the German Spitz family, refined from larger Spitz-type sled dogs of the Baltic Pomerania region. Queen Victoria's smaller-frame dogs accelerated Victorian miniaturization of the breed from 30 lbs to under 10 lbs in a single generation.

Aging

How Pomeranians age

RVC VetCompass gives a median 12.2 years (n=4,111). Tracheal collapse is the defining respiratory concern — harness use replaces collars in modern welfare practice — with patellar luxation and alopecia X secondary.
