The Wirehaired Vizsla was bred in 1930s Hungary to add coat protection to the traditional smooth Vizsla for colder work. Despite superficial similarity, the breed is genetically distinct from the Vizsla rather than a coat variant.
Not represented in the RVC VetCompass cohort; breed-standard estimates indicate 12-14 years, consistent with the smooth Vizsla. OFA data is thin — cataracts (1.4%) and elbow dysplasia (2.8%) are the only reportable rates at present.
